A day at the cinema

Have you ever had the experience of going to the movies with your friends on a school day? Well, the seniors at my school was able to attend the Manaiakalani Film Festival..The Manaiakalani film festival was hosted in Sylvia Park at Hoyts. Each of the 9 Manaiakalani schools made a short movie to show on the big screen  at Hoyts.Only a few student were chosen to be in the crew to help make the movie. The teachers  only pick the really well behaved students that have self control. This year St Patrick’s only sent one movie for the film festival but next year, the teachers expect all the classes to send in at least one movie for the film festival.

It was finally the day that the seniors were going to Hoyts at Sylvia park. We were going to travel there by bus. When it was time to go to the film festival our bus was late, I was really worried that we weren’t going to make it but the teachers were working really hard to organise what was happening with the bus. When our bus finally came, Angelina and I decided to sit at the very front of the bus so that we could be the first ones out of the bus in order get a good seat that the cinema. While we were walking to Hoyts, everyone was talking very loudly and I couldn’t even hear myself talk. When we got to the cinema, there were a lot of students sitting in their seats  so many schools there sitting in there sits. Everyone was talking at the same time and I had no idea what my teacher was telling me to do because it was so loud in the cinema.

When the lights finally went out everyone was quiet and kept still. The first movie we saw really interesting and a bit funny. When it was finally the when my school’s turn to how the movie that they made, I was very nervous because I didn’t know what was going to happen or how people were going to react about the movie. When the movie was finally finished I thought that it was really great and amazing because of how the were able to make a movie that great. After a few more movies made by other school we had go get out of the cinema because their were other schools that were going to see it, the teachers had to count how many children were there to see if anyone was missing. When we all got on the bus my partner and I decided to go to the back of the bus this time, on the bus ride back to school everyone was talking about what movie they liked the most and why. When we got back to school the teacher said that we could play for a few minutes on the playground, when it was time to get back in class all the classes went to the website where we could watch the other movies that we didn’t watch at the cinema.

My teacher set my class a task that we had to write a review about one of the movies that we recommend. On Friday Miss Grant came to our class and helped us to post our review on to our blogs

I think that the Film Festival was the really cool and I can’t wait for next year’s Film Festival, and I hope that I can be in it.

A day at the beach

Have you ever been so cold that your teeth are chattering away and you can’t stop or talk at all ?
Well, that’s what happened to me while I was swimming.

Well, it all started when I woke up on Saturday in the morning. I woke up at 9:42 am because I slept really late the night before watching a really scary movie with my dad. When I finished making my bed, I went out of my room for breakfast. When I went into the kitchen I saw my mum and dad cooking. I asked my mum why they were are cooking a lot of food for breakfast and they said that it wasn’t just for us it is also for your cousins they are going to the beach with us today, I didn’t know that we’re going to the beach I go swimming I asked my mum and she said yes because we would get to go swimming while the adults go fishing.

I started to pack all the stuff that I needed for the beach and I decide to use the pirate towel that I got for christmas last year I also decide to bring my phone to listen to music if I was getting bored or dizzy in the car, when I finished packing I help mum to pack the food for the two hour trip to the beach. While we were driving to the beach, when were half way there I fell asleep because I was still tired and sleepy,

When I woke up we were halfway to our destination. I spent the rest of the time listening to the radio on my phone. When we were only fifteen minutes away, my dad decided to stop at the supermarket to buy some batteries for his flashlight. Went in with him and I bought some lollies and gum, my dad also decide to buy some ice-cream that we can eat on the beach while we are waiting. When we got back in the car I gave some lollies to my sister.

When we got to the beach I went straight  to the water to see if it is cold or warm, it was really cold but I didn’t mind. When I told my mum it was cold she thought that we might get sick, but I told her that it was ok then I went to change into my togs. When I finished changing, I went straight to the water and went for a swim at first it was really cold but then in a few minutes it was warm, when I decide to go and eat some snacks my thought that I had finished swimming but I told her that I just wanted a snack to eat before I get back in the water. When I got in the water it was really cold and I could feel it before I even touched it.

While I was swimming my dad asked me if I could pull in the cage that they use to catch crabs when I pulled it in it was really cool because there were small crabs in the cage, there were around six to eight baby crabs. My dad thought that it was really cool too then he asked me to put the cage back into the water so I did and I also I put the little crabs in a bucket with a little bit of sand and water to keep them alive. When I went back into the water my sister was still on the sand looking for shells and building sandcastles, so I told her to go swimming but she said that she didn’t want to swim because the water was really cold. And I said fine it’s your decision so I went back into the water to go for a swim. Then my dad told me to pull the cage in again but there were no baby crabs in it. When I finished swimming I changed into my warm clothes, then I went in the car to take a nap. When I woke up everyone was packing up so I joined in and helped out. We then drove home and went straight to bed.

I had such a great and fun day yesterday, I can’t wait for the next time I go swimming or fishing with my family.

"School Is Cool"

I recommend "School Is Cool" by Room 7 from Tamaki Primary because it was really great that they added songs to explain how school is cool. The song choices were very suitable to show that school is cool. They were very clear about what they wanted the movie to be. They all said their lines clearly and everyone understood what they are saying. They sang the song beautifully and they all knew the lyrics and sang in key.

You should definitively watch this movie.

Today's The Big Day

On Wednesday,16th of May, Room 7 was going to experience something that only some schools get to  experience, which is TECHNICRAFT!

Technicraft is when a class goes to a college and there they are taught technological skills. Room 7 is doing Technicraft every Wednesday for five weeks. The school we are going to for technicraft is Edgewater College.

We had to take the bus us to be able to get to Edgewater College. When we got there we saw Miss Bullot at the car park and she helped us to get to the classroom we were going to work in, we met our teacher her name was Mrs. Scott. Mrs. Scott put us in groups of four, I was with Christian, Yom and Joanna, Mrs. Scott told us that we were making triple chocolate muffins. We had to preheat the oven and put on our aprons. Joanna, Yom and I started to make the mixture and Christian made the milk and he also sprayed the oil in the muffin trays and then we popped it in the oven. The muffins were in the oven for 40 minutes at least, we checked the muffins by poking the muffins gently with a knife if the knife comes out clean it means the muffins are ready and if the knife doesn’t come out clean that means it’s not ready. When the muffins are ready we took it out of the oven.

The muffins had to cool on the table for about 2 minutes. Each person in the group got 3 muffins each. We had to eat one muffin with whip cream that Audrey’s group made in her group. It was so yummy, after we ate we had to wash the dishes then we had to go back to school.

I was a bit scared when we went to Edgewater College because I thought that technicraft was going to be really hard, but it turned out to be really fun!
